As an expectant mom of a child with Down syndrome, Courtney Baker was terrified of what her baby’s diagnosis would mean for the future of her child and family.
That’s because her doctors, rather than offering compassion and support, instead advised her to abort the precious preborn child she had already named, telling her a child with Down syndrome would diminish her family’s quality of life.
Despite the constant pressure from her doctor, Courtney rejected abortion. And instead of the bleak future her doctor predicted, Courtney’s now 15-month-old daughter, Emersyn, has brought so much joy and happiness to her family.
Listen to Courtney share how her daughter Emersyn is “proof that people are more than their diagnosis,” and why we must protect children with disabilities:
The unfortunate reality is that far too often, so many doctors push parents just like Courtney in their most vulnerable moments to consider killing their preborn children as the best “option” for them and their families.
In the United States, the vast majority of children diagnosed with Down syndrome are aborted, and in some European countries, nearly 100% are killed.
This is beyond cruel – a disability should not disqualify anyone from the human race, or be used to rob them of their rights and dignity. Children with Down syndrome should be celebrated, loved, and embraced by society.
olivier, please take a few minutes to watch and share Courtney’s story with your friends on social media. Here is a link you can send to your friends who are not on Facebook.
When we spread the truth about the precious humanity of preborn children we can change hearts and minds every day.
Let’s show why the practice of using abortion to discriminate against these children has no place in a world that stands for basic human rights.
